Prosperity of the wicked
For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. (Ps 73:3 nlt)
Once a dog got a piece of bone and began to run to a safe place to enjoy it. On the way it saw another dog with a piece of bone. It jumped to grab that second bone, not realising it was it's own image that reflected in the water!
Asaph, the Psalmist, acknowledges here that he almost slipped seeing the prosperity of the wicked (Ps 73:2-3). This could be a trap that any of us can fall into. The world is a very slippery and tempting place that appears to be attractive. But slipping into it could become like what happened to the dog in the story above. Do not be deceived by the seemingly attractive prosperity. True prosperity is something only God gives us. When the wicked continue to prosper, learn to be focused on true prosperity.
Am I concerned about the prosperity of the wicked?
The poverty of the righteous is better than the prosperity of the wicked.
Prayer: Lord, let me have the right perspectives on prosperity. Amen
